Our hotel, the Oberoi |
Dancer at dinner |
In the morning, Cathy went to visit a near by temple
complex. I stayed behind. On our next trip I will definitely want to go
there. We then proceeded to the
nearby city of Udiapur. Big doings in Udiapur tonight – it turns out the Prince
is getting married. He has invited 5,000 of his closest friends to dinner. Shah
Rukh Khan among them.
The Oberoi Udaivilias is an amazing hotel. Although fairly
new, it looks like an old palace. What sets the hotel apart, however, is the level of service. Nothing is too much for the staff, they are all amazing. They are dedicated to making the stay memorable and wonderful.
Udaipur has many lakes (it is a beautiful
city) and the hotel is situated across the lake from the Palace (still in use).
Everything is lit up at night, it is a magical setting. Very romantic.
We sent shopping at an old Havali (mansion) that had room
after room of textiles and clothing. We are invited to a wedding in May in
India, so we needed outfits. We selected bolts of cloth and a design, they took
our measurements and tonight the garments will be ready. We will stop by and
try them on and have them make any adjustments necessary. The shop is: Ganesh
Handicraft Emporium. If you want textiles in Udaipur, this is the store to go
to!
We returned to the Oberoi and dinner outside, overlooking
the Palace and the lake. They have lots of heaters just like we have outdoors
in LA, but for some reason (I guess because they had so many) the air was warm
and the night was special.
